Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Each session starts from the present and so it very much depends on you and what’s uppermost for you on the day which direction a session takes.  As a Biodynamic Psychotherapist my role is to support you in your process whatever that might be so each session evolves in its own unique way.

So in general each session might include a period of talking in chairs, bodywork or other psychotherapeutic work which supports your emerging process, emotional regulation or expression.

That’s completely ok. Many people arrive with a fairly vague sense that life isn’t going the way they’d like it to — some general dissatisfaction, without a clear cause. Others come because of a physical condition that’s affecting their quality of life, or because stress has become hard to manage and is playing out in anxiety and depression. Some people have already done a lot of talking therapy and feel ready to work at a different level, through the body. People arrive for all sorts of reasons, often without being able to explain exactly why — and this is simply part of how the process begins.

Sessions generally run for one hour, unless we discuss otherwise. Fees can be discussed when you get in touch.

If cost feels like a barrier to starting, please do mention this when you contact me — it’s something we can discuss together.

Psychotherapy is an unfolding process, that is individual to you so there’s no fixed number of sessions. For some people, shorter-term work is right. For others, a longer-term process fits better. We can talk about what feels appropriate as we go.

As Biodynamic Psychotherapy involves supporting your process of emotional regulation directly through the body, it’s important to access sessions in person as much as possible. That said, if logistics make this difficult, working online is possible — something I discovered during the Covid pandemic, when it became a valuable option. Online sessions usually take place by video call, and can still support you in accessing your own bodily awareness and impulses, though not through hands-on bodywork. We can discuss what’s most relevant for you as it comes up.

There may be times, though, when I feel an in-person session would be more appropriate therapeutically, in order to support you more fully and safely.

What you share in sessions is confidential, and this sits at the heart of how I work with you. I also follow the UKCP code of ethics, which supports this commitment. The only exceptions are if, for any reason, I had serious concerns for your safety or someone else’s, or a legal requirement — and I would always aim to discuss this with you first wherever possible.

I also have regular sessions with a clinical supervisor, which adds a further layer of support to the work we do together. These discussions remain confidential.

Sessions take place in a garden room, a quiet, private space separate from the main house. Parking is available in front of the main house and I will let you know directions and details once you’ve booked an initial session.

There is a toilet in the main house you’re welcome to use if necessary.

At the moment, the garden room is not wheelchair accessible.
